Customers Are Reminded to Protect Their Computers - 4/1/09
Customers need to be aware that there are computer worms, viruses and other malicious programs that are transmitted through the Internet and can infect their computers. These malicious programs can cause serious harm to customers, such as destruction of data and theft of personal information. A good way for customers to reduce the chance that their computers will be infected or damaged by these harmful programs is by keeping their anti-virus software up-to-date and installing patches recommended by the operating system vendor, such as Windows XP, and other suppliers for the software on their computers.

So, your computer's been acting up and you suspect a virus or worm is to blame. To find out run a virus scan on your computer using anti-virus software.
If you don't have anti-virus software or are concerned that your software isn't working properly, you can check your computer using a Web-based virus scan. Easy-to-use, free scans are available from such companies as Trend Micro, Panda Software, and McAfee.

To remove a threat from your computer , follow these 2 steps:

    Step 1: Protect Your Computer
It is recommended that you follow the 3 steps outlined in the "How to Safeguard Your Computer" section. This will help to ensure that your computer is protected from any other potential threats.

Step 2: Find & Remove the Threat
Search for the virus on your system using your anti-virus software. If you do not have anti-virus software or feel your software isn't working properly, search your computer using a web-based virus scan, such as HouseCall.** Once you have identified the virus, use the removal tool to get rid of it.
**HouseCall is provided and supported by Trend Micro.

    What's a Firewall?

Imagine a locked door to which only authorized users with a key or access card can enter. In the world of networks and computers a firewall serves a very similar function. Specifically, a firewall:

can be either hardware or software that enforces security policies
permits only authorized users to enter or access certain info, items, or areas
has built-in filters that can prevent unauthorized or potentially dangerous material from entering your computer
    logs attempted intrusions
